Coach –
This is not a bowl to hold your shaving soap between shaves. This bowl is used to create shaving lather by putting soap on a shaving brush and then swirling the brush in the bowl. You run the shaving brush under hot water, dip it in the soap, then swirl it in the bowl like you are beating eggs. The result is warm shaving lather that glides smoothly on your face, lifting the beard and lubricating your skin for a close comfortable shave. It works very well.
AR1 –
Over the last few years, I switched over from shaving with a cartridge razor to a DE razor. I decided to start out cheap, and got a badger hair brush and used a bar of regular bath soap in an old mug. I have enjoyed it, but my lather was kinda pathetic. To step up my lather game, I picked up this bowl and a proper bar of shaving soap. Having a separate bowl for building lather has worked well for me. Now I get actual lather, as opposed to just a thin film of soap. I can even get a decent lather with the bath soap.
